Set out for a full day guided tour to the south of Olkhon island. We also visit the island of Ogoy where Buddhists’ Enlightenment Stupa with various Buddhist relics, and a bronze statue of the dakini Troma Nagmo, the mother of all Buddhas in Tibetan Buddhism.
Then, we will travel to Cape Khorgoy to see its 185 meters long ancient Kurykan protective wall. As we travel the icy surface of Baikal, you will see how local use the benefits of the nature to arrange their daily routine and how useful the ice can be!
One can write endlessly write about how amazing and beautiful Baikal ice is. We will just note that the largest in the world lake freezes entirely, except for a small section of 15-20 km at the source of the Angara River flowing from Lake Baikal. The purity and transparency of the ice is due to the features of the climate and the lake itself, and its thickness reaches 2 meters. The small amount of snow that falls there is blown off and grinding the ice to mirror.
It is said that 53 types of ice can be found on Lake Baikal. In addition, we have ice grottoes and plaques - small caves and coastal rocks with thousands of bizarre icicles. And toros, ice hummocks, blocks of ice formed as a result of pressure and cracks, which complement the image of Grandpa Baikal's greatness perfectly. Today we will visit some iconic photo spots and secluded locations.
