We visit Baikal Museum which offers an in-depth look into the rich biodiversity of Lake Baikal, one of the oldest and deepest lakes in the world. The exhibits cover a range of topics, from the lake's geological formation to the unique species that call it home, such as the Baikal seal. There’s a detailed model of the lake, showing its depths and the various ecosystems found within. You'll also learn about the scientific research conducted on the lake's water, flora, and fauna, which is critical in understanding this ecological wonder.
Also, we see the famous Shaman Rock, an iconic natural landmark on the shores of Lake Baikal. This rock is believed by locals to be sacred, linked to ancient spiritual practices and legends of the Buryat people. The rock marks the boundary between the lake and the Angara River, the only river that flows out of Lake Baikal. It’s not just a scenic spot but a place steeped in spiritual significance. Visitors often find it to be a place of peace and contemplation, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
Among important sights there stands St. Nicholas Church, built in traditional Russian Orthodox style, is located near the shore of Lake Baikal. It offers both spiritual solace and a glimpse into the religious history of the region. The church’s architecture and its picturesque setting against the backdrop of the lake make it a serene stop for visitors.
We ascent to the highest observation point for the best photos.
Visit the Fish Market near Lake Baikal, which offers a unique opportunity to experience the local culture and taste the famous Baikal fish, such as omul, a type of salmon found only in the lake. The market is lively, with local vendors selling fresh fish, smoked delicacies, and other regional specialties. It’s a great place to interact with locals, sample the local cuisine, and take home some souvenirs.
For the evening, we can offer optional Russian Banya experience.
