Today you will move to one of the most exotic regions of Russia - Kalmykia. The Kalmyks inhabiting this region are the only indigenous Buddhist people in Europe. Arriving from Volgograd to Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, you will have a fascinating city tour during which you will know the special features of the culture, religion, customs and traditional cuisine of the Kalmyk people.
You will visit a number of sacred Buddhist sites in the city, such as the seven-tiered Seven Days Pagoda, located in the very center of Elista, as well as the largest khurul in Europe, the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni, built with the blessing of the Dalai Lama. You will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique Kalmyk cuisine: you will taste the unique Kalmyk tea, to which the Kalmyks add milk and salt, as well as other traditional dishes of the nomadic people.
At the end of the day, you will visit the sacred lonely poplar and the cascade of springs located near Elista. At sunset, magical views of the endless steppes open up there. You will spend the night at a hotel with amenities in the center of Elista.
