This day is devoted to a trip to the Volga River Delta, which is the largest delta in Europe and the 8th largest in the world. It is noteworthy that due to a decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea, the area of the delta has increased nine times over the past 130 years!
The delta territory is a part of the Astrakhan Nature Reserve and has a truly unique flora and fauna. Among the many living creatures inhabiting the Volga delta, birds attract special attention - at different times of the year you can meet about 250 species of birds, many of which you will be able to see yourself. During the water excursion on a motor boat, you will also find the wild islands of the delta with reeds several meters high, the intricacies of hundreds of Volga canals, and if your trip takes place from mid-July to the end of August, a massive lotus bloom as well! If you wish, you will also have the opportunity to fish or swim in the waters of the Volga.
After the end of a ride along the delta, you will also visit a sturgeon farm, where this type of fish is currently grown. Since ancient times sturgeon was considered to be the most valuable fish in Russia. You will be able to personally trace the entire path of a sturgeon from a juvenile to an adult, and also learn how black caviar, the most expensive delicacy in the world, is obtained. At the end of the excursion, you will return to Astrakhan.
