Bolgar (also known as Ancient Bolgar), a historical and archaeological complex located on the left bank of the Volga River, around 140 km from Kazan, Russia. This site is renowned for its significance as the first capital of the Golden Horde during the 13th century and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Bolgar was a major center of the Volga-Bolgars civilization, which thrived between the 7th and 15th centuries. The remnants of the city offer a rich architectural and cultural legacy from the 12th and 13th centuries.
